McKenna's second sweat test

McKenna will get a second sweat test tomorrow at 8:00 AM. We are also sending up a stool sample as well. So we should know more tomorrow.

Jill! Oh my goodness I just read about this on Cori's blog. I'm so sorry. I don't know a lot about CF but my prayers are with you and your family. Chance is darling, and I love that you chose that name for him. If you need anything, really anything, let me know. Meals or if you just want your older boys to come play send them on over!

A few facts about CF

CF is a genetic disease and both parents have to be a carrier to pass the disease to their offspring.

Approximately 30,000 people have CF in the United States. So it is very rare.

If you were born with CF back in 1950 you probably wouldn't live long enough to go to elementary school.

Today people with CF's average lifespan is 35 years. Yet, just 20 years ago it was only 18 years. So they have come a long way.

Because so few people have CF in the United States there is very little government money spent on finding a cure.

2 years ago the state of Utah started testing all babies at birth for CF. Before that you wouldn't have known that a child had CF until he/she started showing symptoms.

Symptoms of CF are large quantities of salt in perspiration. Slow growth or weight gain, smelly diapers, and a hacking cough that won't go away.
